This was a shocker!
From a Parade Magazine interview by Gail Sheehy published December 27, 2007
"Editor's note: We are all saddened by the murder this morning of Pakistan’s Benazir Bhutto. The assassination adds more danger and confusion to the already chaotic situation in the region.
In late November, PARADE sent Contributing Editor Gail Sheehy to Pakistan. Sheehy traveled with former prime minister Benazir Bhutto as she campaigned through her home provinces. Sheehy had two long interviews with her—the first in Bhutto’s home in Islamabad, a second at her residence outside Karachi. Bhutto told Sheehy that she had long been a target of terrorists. She knew she was also now a target of the Musharraf government. Today’s suicide bombing mirrors the earlier attempt on her life that Bhutto described to Sheehy.."
The interview with Bhutto will be the cover story of PARADE on January 6, 2008.
Who saw this coming? Nobody! Right?
A semi-failed state precariously teetering between secular modernity and theocratic dark ages armed with nukes in social and political chaos.
That must be what our skilled profssional Diplolmatic Corps intended when drafting our Foreign Policy.
Support the military dictator Musharraf (for his support in our failed Iraqi war and his uncanny ability to hide OBL under our very noses...a trick worth of David Copperfield), while blatantly importing and supporting his democratic relacement, Bhutto, knowing her life expectancy would be measured in days. Play one against the other.
Then she gets assasinated.
Brilliant!
If our carefully crafted Foreign Policy is to make the modern, nuclear-armed word as chaotic, hostile and unpredictable as possible, we have succeeded admirably.
Well done, Bushies!
We are SO MUCH SAFER with the faith based neo-con Republicans at the helm of our Ship of State.

Obviously God is not on our side!
You are right on part of this XO, at a point it cannot be totally the U.S. policy that is running that country. Pakistan is a country unto itself after all. But we did prop this guy up, hell he was even pushing a book on the Daily Show. Fortunately think folks such as you and I can see through the BS that is an obvious power grab. I cannot totally blame Bush (as much as I would like too) on this one. Coach all you want, but it is up to the players to win.
I feel for the people of that country. The quote from the Parade article is correct. She was what Islam feared, an intelligent and powerful woman. Now she is a martyr. Hopefully, that will wake up the vast majority of people in that country to find a way to remove the knuckle head at the helm. Even Putin was quoted as saying that this was a 'barbarous' act.
Ans why wasn't I on your top 10 list, beside my writing at the 2nd grade level, and general blandness. :)
Why does the US always back the dictator, instead of looking out for the interests of the people of a country?
I've asked myself that many times, and have come to the conclusion that most administrations, (especially this one), wish that they had dictatorial powers and are jealous of guys like Musharraf and Putin.
I hate to say this, but about 30-40% of Americans would love to have a guy like Bush as "president for life," and have martial law in place, in this country. People want to be "cattle," so they can go on with their shopping without being disturbed by the "complex" politics of a working republic.
Moo.
Happy trails,
Bad Ben
Maybe if she would have accepted the "Pope-Mobile" to do her touring in she might not have been killed, but she refused anything more then a team of flesh and blood for protection.
She made herself a martyr and I think some people may just pay attention now.
Well maybe but I doubt it.
While I agree that the president is a moron and the foreign policy might as well be determined by a monkey, name one administration since WWII that didn't screw something up. The best foreign policy is letting things play out and look out for your own country. It may be cynical but every time we try to interfere it's guaranteed to backfire. There is no reason to expect anything better from any candidate for 2008.
As for the guy quoting Putin, he can say anything he wants. Of course it's a barbaric act to have an explosion, much more civilized act is to have a James Bond-style murder like he prefers. Clean, quiet, gets results.

Lol, roger that!
I agree, I saw this coming after she was came back to Pakistan. Very sad indeed!
Here's a picture of Tony when he was a little baby, isn't he cute?
Look at all the pyshics we have in the USA. They didn't see it coming either.
