Off The Beaten Path
Looking for something different to do this weekend?
Not hip enough for the pedestrian Brookside Art Fest?
Too hip for the Richmond Mushroom Festival?
Can't figure out why the fuck Excelsior Springs would have enough of a connection to F. Scott Fitzgerald to justify Gatsby Days?
Fuck it. Just head up to the Sparks, Ks and White Cloud Ks. Flea Market.
It spans two little podunk towns that are about 10 miles apart. It even spills into a street fest in neighboring Troy, KS.
If you like yard sales, garage sales, and flea markets, this is Nirvana. It will try your stamina. Leave early, bring your sun screen and wear your best walking shoes.
Whet your appetite for funnel cakes, fish tacos, pulled pork, hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ, lemonade and other fine fair fare.
This event (held twice a year...spring and fall) draws tens of thousands of people from surrounding states. Whatever you collect...there will be somebody here selling it.
Hell, even if you just want to people watch, you won't be disappointed.
I can't remember the name of the place, but after you are done shopping and are ready for a little R&R, there is a place (not too far away) that sits right on the banks of the Missouri River that is a great steak and catfish roadhouse.
It's one of the most memorable daytrips the area has to offer.
Come. Shop. Buy. Eat. Enjoy.

I've never understood why people want to buy fleas at a market when you can get them for free from most stray dogs.
As for me, we're heading to SW Boulevard for a Brewer Tour. I plan on being well fucked up by about 1 p.m. Cheers!
Well, damn, I'm gonna miss it this spring but I heartily endorse your recommendation based on going in previous years. Fun Fun Fun !
That looks super-fun.
(Sadly, I have nothing profound to offer. That's it.)
This is news to me, Hip Sub- thanks! I may be able to finally complete my collection of Princess Diana collector plates.

That is how they trap you. Once you are here, they will not let you go...
