Concert Memories

I attended my first ever live rock concert on April 22, 1974. I was 18 years old. The semi-local band Kansas was the opening act for Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band at The Cowtown Ballroom (a venue of whose provenance I was completely ignorant at the time).

I was unemployed, living with my mom in Raytown and had lots of time to call DJ's at local radio stations trying to win tickets. I was able to barter my 2 free tickets into a ride to the concert (because young losers with no job and living with their mom's generally don't have cars).

I only managed to save a handfull of ticket stubs from the many concerts I have attended since.

Which ones can you correctly identify? Which ones were you at? Proove it! Share your memories.

I have been to more concerts than I care to remember, because working at Kemper allowed for that. :)

I went to an Nine Inch Nails concert in February of 2005, and I think my left ear is still ringing.

Did you sneak in alcohol, smoke pot and do drugs back in those days?

Was one of these Frank Zappa? Now THAT guy gave a hell of a show.

Wish I'd saved all of my stubs too - just never occurred to me: Little River Band, Captain and Tenille, Germaine Jackson, Paul Sedaka, Poco, Marilyn Manson, NIN, Styx, KISS, Jerry Jeff Walker, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Johnny Cash, BNL, Paula Abdul and that shitty Christian band from the State Fair.

Ah - the treasure trove of my torturous musical shenanigans!

(Spyder - I've got some great pics of and a really boring story about the Bare Naked Ladies if you're ever really, really hard up).

stink - Yep. That was Zappa.

I don't have the stub, but I also caught Flo & Eddie at a local casino.

Tears Began to Fall. Happy Together. Eleanor. It Ain't Me.

Awesome!

I was at several of these shows, including the Eagles/Ronstadt at Arrowhead, Pure Prairie League at Memorial Hall and the Kinks at Memorial Hall. I saved almost every one of my ticket stubs since 1973. Fun fact: Those are my stubs on the DVD box of "Cowtown Ballroom: Sweet Jesus!"
