Painfully Embarassing

This just speaks for itself.

OH. MY. GOD.

Not surprising though.

It's probably my teeny Republican mind causing this, but what am I missing? The "Who Let the Dogs Out" thing? Wouldn't that just make him painfully behind the times? Clearly, when he said, "Who's got the camera, now?" it triggered the thought of the song in his head.

This sort of thing happens to me all the fucking time, to an annoying extent, actually. My mom would suddenly break into "It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to..." whenever someone mentioned the word "birthday" or "party" or "cry" for that matter. Sometimes, people do weird shit.

I wonder if he would have began singing that if the group were "paler"?

Ok, again, sometimes shit brings things to mind. It was a popular song a few years ago, and not just with the "darker" folks, as I recall. I think when he said the camera thing, it just popped into his head, and he said it.

Why does everything have to become a racial issue with some people? When I see a certain coworker's name (Banefsheh), I see the word "bananafish" for some reason. So that's what I call him when I tell my boss he's sent a meeting maker to us. I don't know why my brain does it. And I don't mean any harm by it. I don't even know why I think of the word bananafish! Is it actually something that exists? If so, when did I ever hear of it? I don't know.

Why make something of something that really isn't a big deal? The people in the video with him kind of giggled when he did it, even. Clearly they were fine, so what gives? Were they faking their cheer? Later on, did they get really, really pissed off and turn their tape over to Al Sharpton so he could take up their case and get an apology from Romney for his callous and insensitive statement he made so flippantly?

I mean, c'mon. I'm honestly surprised that XO found it worthy of posting...

He's acting like any other dorky Utah Mormon I've ever met.

Actually, most dorky Utah Mormons would freak out at being around so many black people. Props to Mitt, but he really needs to get out more.

faith - No, I don't think anyone was offended! My cringe factor stemmed from the sight of an uber-square, uptight, old religious white guy with a titanium rod up his ass making such a lame-assed attempt to come across as even a little bit hip.

I have much the same reaction when I see young, white, suburban boys wearing saggies and crooked hars trying to look all ubran gangsta. It's just embarassing.

As for the people giggling, I'm pretty sure they were giggling at him, not with him.

heather - good point. He gets props for not doing the photo op from the backseat of his limo with the windows up and the doors locked.

Aahh...that makes sense.

I don't get the same cringe in that case, and it's not like I'm even a Romney *fan* or whatever. I just saw a guy taking a picture with a group of giddy people who appeared to be excited to be meeting him, and couldn't figure out what the issue was. So I appreciate you telling me your side of it. You big, beautiful man, you. ;)

Heather, word on the dorky thing. He is a businessman dorky dude, that's for damned sure!

heather - "You big, beautiful man, you. ;)"

"Aw, shucks!" (diverting my gaze and kicking the dirt with my toe).

XO...it IRON rod. Not titanium. If you are going to use Mormon references, at least be accurate. :o)

I still love you, even though you have a penis.
