Disturbing Convergence

When I started this blog a couple of years ago, I thought I was creating a persona that, through the shield of pseudonimity, would allow me to say things that I probably wouldn't normally say.

But during last month's blogger meat at The Levee, I was disabused of that fiction.

As I was saying my early goodbyes (ya know, like I do), Keith was at the bar talking to one of our newer members. As I bid them fare well, Keith told the newbie "XO is EXACTLY the way he is on his blog in real life." Or words to that effect. He said it with a smile as though that was very good thing so I took it as such.

But it got me thinking about the whole persona thing. There are several possibilities...

1. I was deluding myself from the start.
2. I have grown to be more like Xavier.
3. Xavier has grown to be more like me.
4. All of the above.

At tonight's blog meat at Rincon Colombiano, all doubts were laid to rest and the illusion of a fictional persona ended forever.

The blogger Banky and I go back a ways to a previous social networking experiment. His girlfriend Kiki and I had been friends before they met. I actually helped facilitate their relationship through the donation of a Darth Maul liquid soap dispenser.

But that's another story.

Tonight Banky (who gave me the most hawesome gift of a graphic novel of Micheal Moorcock's "Elric: Weird of the White Wolf"...thanks, dood!) reminded me of an incident that I had forgotten.

It was a few years ago and I was meeting some friends at Kyle's up on N. Oak to participate in a Bob Reeder gaelic songfest.

I was the last to arrive and Kiki, who I had not seen in some time, rushed up, gave me a hug and said "So, where are the other three Horsemen of the Apocalypse?"

Apparently, my reputation has always proceeded me and I will never escape my doom.

Well, hello there "beatrixk"!

I knew you had to be lurking out there in cyberspace somewhere.

How you doin'? You doin' O.K.?

How are the kids, Manny and Moe? They doin' alright?

That's good. That's real good.

Don't be such a stranger.

I run a classy joint here. The dice ain't loaded, I don't water the booze and all the whores are clean.

It's a family-friendly establishment.

Feel free to stop by anytime!

I have long thought of my blogger persona (Fiery) as more actually me than people who know me "in person". I don't hold back, I dont' fake anything, I don't pretend to be something I'm not. It's raw, it's uncensored, it's all me.

It's the real world where we have to pretend to be what we're not. But not here. What would be the point of that?

My friends, the ones who really know me, call me Fiery. :D
