Another Nail in the Coffin of Old White Men

Being an old white man myself, I know that of which I speak.

Phil Gramm steps down after 'whiners' comment

Yeah, I'm sure he's right.

There isn't anything wrong with America.

It's just all of those middleclass, liberal, intellectual, anti-war "whiners" who have to choose between gas money or food who are dragging the country down with their talk of "lies" and "war dead".

If they would just shut the fuck up and let the christofascist, right-wing, Captains of Industry get on with the business of raping the middle east to line their own pockets, the world would be so much safer!

Let them torture innocent civilans in secret and illegal prisons, holding people for years without ever being charged with a crime.

Let them conduct warrantless searches of American's emails via spy satellites that OUR TAX DOLLARS PAY FOR.

Let them listen in on our phone conversations with the cooperation of the telcoms whose bills we pay every month and who are now immune from prosecution for illegally violating our privacy.

Let them monitor and record our public comings and goings via street cams.

Let them look over our shoulders in public libraries by giving them access to records about who checks out what and for how long.

We would all be SO MUCH SAFER if we just let the government monitor everything that everybody does all the time!

This from The Republicans who claim to want less government.

They only want "less government" when it comes to regulating the greed of capitalists.

They want AS MUCH GOVERNMENT AS THEY CAN POSSIBLY GET when it comes to regulating what individuals can say and do in the privacy of their own homes and bedrooms, what women can do with their own reproductive system, and to what level The People can criticize those in power.

The Republicans and their conservative, right wing, religous allies are finished.

They have destroyed themselves with their arrogance.

While I don't agree with the context that he used the word "whiners", I have to agree that Americans in general have become a bunch of pansies.

I had to go and double-check that we still have democratic congress (and we do-54% majority in the house, 51 in the senate) so while I love me a good outrage, I'd like to call bullshit on this one. republicans didn't do it, they all did. maybe democrats can't beat a veto, but that doesn't mean they have to vote for legislation that goes against their principles. oh, i forgot, they don't have any principles. anyway, call me when obama closes gitmo, I'll buy you a lunch.

This story from NPR is particularly heart wrenching.

I like the advice people gave her like have a kid and get more public assistance.

The pictures of the duo just make you want to cry.

The democrats certainly aren't innocent as far as voting to go along with the President. But it's been a republican President that led us down this road.

When you find out who has been profitting from this "war on terror" (which should more properly be called a "war on freedom, theirs and ours") it will make you sit up and take notice.

Follow the money, it will lead you to some unpleasant truths.

A heck of a lot of legit complaints are in your post.

1)
My, admittedly eccentric ,view is that America should fight for oil, but that is not what this war is about.

There is already plenty of oil all over the world. N. America alone has access to some 5 trillion barrels! Iraq can supply enormous amounts of oil, and Americans are in a position to use it. Yet that is not happening.

No doubt Cheney and Gramm have found ways to line their pockets, but it is very unlikely that they need a war to line their pockets with oil money.

2)
Prisoners of War, technically, cannot be charged with crimes during a war. A crime is a violation of a nation's laws. A soldier is outside of the laws of his enemy country, and has no right to them.

Would it be decent to decide more quickly what to do with captured terrorists, who truly are enemy soldiers? Probably, especially for those who were captured incidentally. On the other hand POWs have no choice but to sit out the war they are a part of... at least they are alive.

As for the rest of the post... YUP!

I am with Fiery & Meesha's take on the Dems too; well sort of.

Basically, this election and the last two elections have been a choice between Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Neither side has a clue where it is going politically, and when one don't know where he is going he is bound to wind up some place else!

Let's keep in mind that the whiners on both sides vote for these nitwits too. In fact, many do it enthusiastically; blech! So the problem is that both the politicians and voters have 'lost it'. "It is the original moral meaning of the Constitution of The United States of America.

Ben Franklin:

"It's a Republic, if you can keep it."

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

And...

"One of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these day is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding gathers used in the struggle for independence"
Charles Austin Beard 1874-1948.
