Gay Pride Festival

I'll be taking my daughter and her friend to this. By her request.

Because my daughter, her friend and I have friends and family members who are gay and we support their quest for equal rights.

I keep hearing a lot from the Right about "traditional marriage". Some nonsense about "one man, one woman".

Can some of you biblical scholars cite me some (any) biblical references where God or Jesus state this to be the definition of "marriage"?

I'll save you some time and effort. No. You can't. So STFU.

Nothing in the 10 Commandments about "gay" marriage.

Not one, single quote anywhere in The New Testament from Jesus defining marriage as being between "one man and one woman".

Never happened.

Marriage is a civil, legal, construct defined by laws passed by humans.

It can be sanctioned by a religious body if the couple chooses, but it's not a legal requirement. It's just window dressing for people of faith.

Secular laws define marriage and the legal rights and privileges derived thereof.

Might see you out there.

You know I agree with you 100% but there is plenty of ranting and raving about the evils of homosexuality in the bible. Maybe not about the definition of marriage per se, but it's pretty clear that you can't win this argument by invoking the bible. People who truly believe in the veracity of the good book cannot knowingly approve of homosexuality.

Which is how we know that the bible is wrong. See how easy that is?

May - I'll keep an eye out for you!

TheDLC - Most of the ranting about homosexuality is in the Old Testament, specifically, Leviticus. The same chapter that talks about eating shellfish and wearing clothing made of mixed fibers as being Abominations Before The Lord.

I thought the whole "sending Jesus to Earth to be tortured on our behalf" thing was like a bankruptcy.

All the old debts cleared away, you've got a clean slate, make the best of it.

And Jesus didn't say didley about bumpin' uglies with somebody who has the same uglies as you.

Think of it this way. The Old Testament was like the Star Trek universe before J.J. Abrams and Jesus was Chris Pine.

XO I'm not a biblical scholar but this passage is a quote from The Big J.C. and is often used in weddings. It quotes Jesus defining marriage between a man and woman:

Mark 10 5-9:

"It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. 6"But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'[a] 7'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8and the two will become one flesh.'[c] So they are no longer two, but one. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

He was speaking on the subject of divorce of which he also didn't seem to approve.

I don't really have an opinion on this one way or another because I don't want to marry a dude but it is a popular myth that Jesus never defined marriage and oft quoted bible passages dispel that contention.

If you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all.

Following the above rule.

Write about your job experience to improve your companies reputation and your own. Like it or not the blog-o-sphere is pulling this stuff to light and we will all have to learn to live smart with each other.

Equally deafening will be the sound of silence. If the companies workers have said nothing then silence will speak for itself. There is no reason to rip and bash another directly. Promote the positives, leave off the negatives and people will get the message.
