Wah, Wah, Wah!
"TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!"
This is the rallying cry at those tea-bag rallies. They love to hold up signs that say it and chant it. I think there's even some country song about it.
"TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!"
Just think about what that means.
Apparently, these right wing fanatics are under the impression that the United States belongs exclusively to them, somebody else has taken it away from them, they're pissed, and they want to take it back.
Take, take, take. Big surprise.
I guess it's time for a little Government 101 primer.
First of all, no one "took" anything away from you and you're not going to "take" anything back.
There was an election. A majority of the American electorate voted the Republicans out of power and put the Democrats in charge. With a controlling majority.
The people in charge of the country before the election were Americans who wanted to take the country in one direction.
The people in charge of the country now are Americans, voted into office by other Americans, who want to take the country in a different direction.
If the Republicans want to be the party in charge again, they should work on formulating new policies and fielding new candidates that a majority of other Americans will vote for in the next election.
But all of this angry yelling and screaming and talk about "taking" things from other Americans and showing up at rallies carrying firearms is, well, counter productive and a little childish.
You don't sound like patriots, you don't sound like revolutionaries. No one is frightened or threatened by your cardboard signs and spittle.
What you sound like is a six year old throwing a fit because another kid is playing with your favorite GI Joe.
You need to learn how to play nice and take turns.
Relax. You'll get your fucking doll back. As soon as we're done playing with it.

And they'll get it back in better shape
LMFAO. Awesome post. I love the last line.
Of course as soon as the republicans get back in office (doG help us), I trust you'll post the same thing with the party affiliation changed, since both parties supporters whine, piss, and moan to no end whenever they're not running the show. But I won't hold my breath for that.
Good point XO (and O.F.). The Republicans need to come up with logical, detailed policy recommendations that the highly educated and savvy American voting public can rally behind.
Something like "Hope" and "Change" and "Yes We Can" -- because those are some policies that the sophisticated voter really understands.
I say this with all due respect, but you often come off sounding exactly like the people you rail against. Like OF and emaw said, if you flip the script, you will complain about the same things the right are currently complaining about. You're an alright guy, don't get me wrong, but you tend to foam at the mouth when you start on your political rants. I enjoy reading it for entertainment purposes, especially when someone comes up with a retort about you wanting a bubble wrap suit. At the end of the day, the right and the left only differ in agenda, not in tactics.
I know you're going to hate me for this but I hope your employer drops your health coverage and your premiums go up about 50% and your coverage goes down. I hope it happens to everybody who thinks Obamacare is the end all. By the way, the health coverage PREMIUMS in Massachusetts since universal coverage was enacted have increased more than any other state in the United States.
Its' called tough love and you'
re going to get a big dose of it.
And to Keith, I don't hate Americans. I hate stupid Americans who drink the kool aid like it's wine from the Messiah AND are forcing everything on us from the energy we use, the health care we receive, the friggin terrorist prisoners in our communities, the Chicago dragonfly sanctuaries courtesy of the stimulus bill that taxes us to death (and don't even challenge me on this cause I have a nephew involved) and on top of that communists and racial haters in the White House (Van Jones) and I could go on.
Laugh all you want cause I'm gonna work my ass off to make sure I save your ass in 2010.
jools - You couldn't say or do anything that would make me hate you.
You and I disagree about some stuff. O.K., most stuff. We know this about one another. And that's OK.
emawkc and I disagree about most stuff too, and yet we had a very enjoyable lunch today with 2 other bloggers who agree with emawkc and two other bloggers who agree with me.
We had a great time.
Nothing wrong with disagreeing.
As far as 2010 and your other points go, I think the country is headed in the right direction. Finally. I approve of the job the administration is doing.
I think American citizens have been undertaxed and American businesses have been under regulated for WAY too long.
I think the self described greatest country on Earth and in history has a moral obligation to ensure that none of it's citizens has to die because they aren't able to make a rich person richer.
That's just barbaric. As every other industrialized nation on the planet realized a long time ago.
