Victory Over Terrorism Day!

I posted the following comment at an INCREDIBLY right-wing, militantly conservative, web site with really annoying sound. I am mirroring it here because I suspect that like other right-wing sites I have visited and participated in, they just blatantly delete any comments with viewpoints that they don't like. They even block people from posting at all because they don't want any "negativity" on their blog. God forbid they should ever be exposed to a viewpoint that challenges their intellectually fragile world view.

Anyway, here is the post that I was responding to:

CIA Chief of Bin Laden Unit: Make Osama Happy: Vote for Democrats!

And here is my comment that I suspect will never see the light of day on that site:

***********************************************************************************

You people are so naive and gullible. It would just be silly if it didn't have such dire consequences for our descendants.

Do you really think that the day will come when we can declare Victory in this so-called "War"?

[Check the Constitution...only Congress can declare War...this is not a War...it's a policy. And a pretty stupid one at that.]

Like what? You think that someday we will have finally killed or captured The Last Hostile Muslim?

Victory Over Terrorism Day? Big headline in USA Today?

Then the United States and Free People everywhere can go about their lives in complete safety? Everybody will love us and respect us once we have defeated all of the Evil-Doers?

American tourists can go snap pictures of the Kaaba in Mecca and sell kettle korn and bandannas to the pilgrims?

What kind of crack are you people smoking?

That will NEVER, EVER happen!

Let me put this into terms that Republicans can understand.

You all know the maxim that a dissatisfied customer will tell 8 people about their bad experience, but a satisfied customer might only tell one or two. Bad news spreads faster and farther than good news.

See if you can grasp this concept.

For every person in Iraq that we kill, we have created a bad customer experience with democracy. We have generated at least 8, probably many more, people who now hate us and want to destroy us.

You cannot possibly solve this problem militarily.

Anyone who thinks you can doesn't understand people, psychology, motivation, anger, injustice, manipulation, poverty, powerlessness, colonialism or world history.

Many of the most radical muslims in the middle east are still fired up and motivated about events that took place a thousand years ago.

How long do you think they will remember the events of the last 6 years?

We will be paying for our arrogance and ignorance for a very, very long time.

When our grandchildren and our great grandchildren and THEIR great, great grandchildren are still fighting and dieing in this so-called "War", you can thank Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.

They are personally responsible for the deaths of your yet-to-be-born loved ones.

BTW, just in case this is one of those many right-wing sites that engage in censorship of dissenting views, I will be mirroring this post on my own blog and linking back to this one.

Ain't democracy and the internet great?

Hey XO, Your comment is there, intact.

Actually, much of what you purport is true and I want us out of Iraq as soon as practically possible. This radical Islamofascism will not end until their clerics make it happen and they won't.

I'd like to go back, though, to the words of Osama in 2004 (from Al Jazeera)

"I say to you, Allah knows that it had never occurred to us to strike the towers. But after it became unbearable and we witnessed the oppression and tyranny of the American/Israeli coalition against our people in Palestine and Lebanon, it came to my mind.

The events that affected my soul in a direct way started in 1982 when America permitted the Israelis to invade Lebanon and the American Sixth Fleet helped them in that. This bombardment began and many were killed and injured and others were terrorised and displaced..."

First of all, Reagan was President at that time. But, the real point is our alliance with Israel and as you know every U.S. President and every Congress has supported Israel, be they Republican or Democrat.

I agree our invasion has stirred the pot, but if we had never invaded Iraq, they would be attacking us. And, I agree, they are not going to stop no matter who is President or how much we kiss their ass AS LONG AS WE SUPPORT ISRAEL. And, quite frankly, I don't see either the Democrats or Republicans changing their support for Israel. As I recall Bill Clinton himself recently said he'd lay down his life for Israel.

Just my 2 cents.

It's true what you say about right wing bloggers, though - they are quick to delete comments and ban commenters. They're unable to cope with voices that don't draw their inspiration from Limbaugh.

Truer words were never spoken.

That's not saying we need to abandon Israel, but we do need to take a step back and look at things objectively if we want to be viewed as any sort of honest broker (as we were during the Carter and Clinton administrations where progress towards peace in the Middle East was actually made).

I'm not sure that "our religious literature says that Our God gave us this land thousands of years ago" is much of a legal claim to modern real estate.

Not enough to justify the worldwide bloodshed that has taken place since 1947.

I say we send XO over there to kick some ass. If that doesn't scare the jihad out of them, nothing will.

A couple of days ago I watched the beheading of Nick Berg via Internet. Up to this week, I couldn't do it, but I finally did. I'm not sure why I did it. The very thought was so beyond my vision of reality I guess I decided I just had to take my blindfolds off.

I heard him scream. They rolled him on his side and started. It took a while. It was so ugly I can't even explain it.

He was an innocent man.

There is no reason, not anything ever that in my mind will ever rationalize or condone what happened to Nick Berg. But, as I write this I know that he is not alone in his torture. We are not dealing with rational people.

Never forget that.

I agree that we are not dealing with rational people, and that torture must not be condoned.

Vote Democratic.

I disagree. I think they are VERY rational.

Most of them were college educated right here in the United States. Some of them may have even attended the same schools a s you. They understand us VERY WELL.

They know that the brutal and barbaric beheading of an innocent American, videotaped and posted on the Internet, will generate the EXACT emotional response that you experienced.

That's what they want. They want us to respond the way we have for the past 6 years. It plays right into their hands.

We are in a war of ideas. The way to win a war of ideas is to have a better idea than your enemy.

We do. Hands down, no doubt.

Freedom and Democracy are better ideas than fanatical religious repression (either Muslim or Christian) of free thought.

They know they can't fight that battle intellectually.

Many mainstream Muslims are still pissed off about the Christian Crusades that took place a thousand years ago. But most have forgotten and are now secularized and commercialized.

If the Fundamentalists can just get us to attack again with the same mindless enthusiasm that we did a thousand years ago, then they will win.

Muslims around the world will revert to fundamentalist teachings and be willing to sacrifice themselves to attack The Enemy.

We are following their playbook just exactly the way they anticipated.

I think it's time to take a different approach.

So do most of us.

YOU CAN'T KILL ALL OF THE TERRORISTS. Just exactly the opposite! For every terrorist you kill, you generate 10 new ones.

The new approach starts on the first Tuesday in November.

Our National Nightmare will be over soon. Saner minds are about to take control.

There will be currently serving Administration Officials wearing translation headsets and undergoing War Crimes Trials in The Haugue sooner than you think.

You can't just make shit up and then go invade another country and start killing people and blowing stuff up.

It's illegal. It's criminal. There are penalties.

You hit the nail on the head. It's like the War on Drugs. There will always be drugs in the world. There will never be a point in time where all of it will be eliminated to the point where we "win". The same holds true with terrorism.

I think, though, that the wording in calling the War on Terror and actual "war" allows government to get more funding from certain departments that they wouldn't otherwise be allowed to do. Maybe I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that's the case. Either way, it's messed up. Good post.

I tink if we sent OJ to Iraq, he would find Osama, because I think Osama is the real killer.

You make some valid points XO.

However....

Inasmuch as these terrorists don't claim a country, so to speak, I guess we then have no choice but to fight them on our soil...and that day is coming.

Xavier Onassis said...

travelingal - I'm afraid you are right.

When that occurs, we will have to deal with it as the criminal matter that it is.

This isn't a matter for our military.

It is a matter for our constitutional legal framework.

You know...the one, single difference that makes us better than them.
