Super Heroes

After the girlfriend went home this morning, I decided to go see Spiderman 3.

This isn't really a movie review blog. You can get a whole let of in depth reviews in a lot of other places. But I will say that it was a great time! The theatre was so packed that the ushers were coming and squeezing everyone together - no empty seats allowed. I felt like a sector on a hard drive being optimized. There were a lot of kids in attendance. Mostly adolescent boys, at least one of which was actually wearing a black Spiderman costume.

It was a terrific, action packed film (duh) and at the end the audience actually applauded.

Go see it on a big screen in a theatre before Al Sharpton starts making the talk show circuit demanding to know "Why is the BAD Spiderman BLACK?!?!" and declaring the movie rascist.

I love good super hero movies. The technology has finally caught up with the comic books and it is making for some really great movies. You may find this hard to believe, but there really isn't any stuntman swinging at the end of an insanely thin rope or a Sandman stuntperson having his face shoved into the side of a speeding subway train. But the CGI has become so seamless that you just suspend disbelief - that's just Spiderman and Sandman kicking each other's butts.

There are quite a few super hero movies in the works that I am looking forward to.

I am apprehensive yet hopeful about the next Fantastic 4 movie.

I don't think that the first one sucked quite as much ass as the critics said. But it certainly didn't live up to the comics that I remember.

I always loved the Silver Surfer, and he will be the "baddie" in this movie.

But what made the Silver Surfer so great for me was that it was so intelligent and philosophical. The Surfer was always carrying a tortured and conflicetd internal debate with himself.

I'm not sure how they are going to capture that. I'm horribly afraid that they are just sticking T2 on a surfboard and calling it good.

I have MUCH higher hopes for another Marvel franchise about to be launched. Iron Man!

I predict that this will be huge. Largely because of the BRILLIANT casting of Robert Downey, Jr. as the flawed Tony Stark inside the armor. Tony Stark's physical flaw was a piece of shrapnel lodged near his heart.

The chestpiece of the armor contained a device that kept the shrapnel away from his heart and kept him alive. So he was a prisoner within his own armor.

But Tony Stark's deeper flaw was alcoholism. Yep. A super hero with a substance abuse problem. Hmmmm. Let's see. Who would be good in that role? Who could make Tony Stark believable? Robert Fucking Downey, Jr. was born to play this character.

I can't wait!

Im so glad you spoke up because I found the first fantastic four to be an incredibly satisfying guilty pleasure. Ive never admitted that out loud before.

crse - I love it that Johnny is such an attention whore. Why do I think that he would be the first of the Four to start his own blog? LOL!

Now I know with certainty that Al Sharpton has won the culture war ... because you had an inkling that making the bad Spidey black might somehow be racist and wrong and he didn't even have to say a word. Just sayin'.

smedrock - sorry to disappoint. But the distressing reports I've read have Galactus portrayed as...a storm cloud.

How fucking lame is that?

michelle - I'm with ya! I can't wait for the scene where a family comes home to find a drunk and rusty Iron Man asleep in their daughter's bed.

This movie will RAWK!
