KSHB "Business In Action"

How much does it cost to get your business featured as a Sunday night "news item" on KSHB's "Business In Action"?

Why are they allowed to just blatantly present this commercial during a news broadcast without disclosing that it is a paid commercial or who paid for it or how much was paid?

I watch the news to get honest reporting. Not commercials.

I call BULLSHIT on Business In Action.

AGAIN.

This may become a fucking crusade.

Well, there's your problem right there.

Here's a good rule of thumb that I follow: If the News isn't new, then it not news.

The link doesn't work. I wanna know what you're talking about, so fix it, please. :)

XO has been linkdead for years, this happens hen you get your head shaved. The sudden increase in UV exposrue you see.

Product placement is nothing new, dates all the way back to radio (pre-tv). Even during news casts.

I've noticed that too, seems that segment wasn't profitable enough :)

I can see why you might think these companies are paying to get exposure. It is not the case. I work for a company that was featured and we never spent one penny to have our company story told. We emailed Mark Clegg and told him about our local company and what we do. After a few months they came out and filmed us and that was that. It gave them a chance to run a story on a local business and it gave us some exposure. It really was a win/win situation and we thought the folks at KSHB did a nice job and provide a nice service featuring local companies and showcasing them to the community.

anonymous - don't take this personal because I don't even know you (because you chose to be anonymous). But since you spoke up, I'll just use you as an example.

OK. You have a business. You sell stuff to people. Fine. What the fuck is NEWSWORTHY about that? Why does that need to be dropped in the middle of a newscast like a turd in a puchbowl?

I watch the news to learn things that are IMPORTANT. Things that may affect me or my family and that I should know about. Public safety information. Wars. Fires. Tornados.

I don't give a rat's ass if some mom and pop business in the metro is selling laquered, paper mache replicas of deceased pets to grieving dog-widows.

That's not news!

Again, THAT'S ADVERTISING! It's not news!

If KSHB wants to toss a free fluff piece your way, fine! I don't care! But don't have a suited anchorman doing it in the middle a newscast! Let Meredith Hoenes do it on whatever that fucking show that people who don't have jobs are still home to watch after the Today Show.

I respect your take too. I just wanted to set the record straight on the incorrect assertion that the companies featured on "Business in Action" are paying for the coverage. They do not pay to be featured, and KSHB is not spotlighting companies buying ad time from them.

I thought the same thing initially, and figured they would not want to cover our company unless we were buying ad time. Not true. I think it is a cool feature and I have learned a lot about different KC companies and organizations. I think it is something different. To each his own with what we like from the newscast.

This feature is usually about 2-3 minutes max. and you still get all your traditional news. I like it. In my opinion...it is nice to see a TV station do something a little different then the normal script on the 10PM news.

Again...different strokes for different folks, but these companies being featured are not paying to be on there and KSHB seems to be just trying something different. I know several people who like watching these features as well. Thanks for letting me put in my 2 cents!
