I'm getting that urge again...

I'm thinking of going with the Robert Altman trim on the goatee.

This is a reasonably recent picture.

This is a closeup.

This is the Robert Altman trim.

What do you think?

I think it would look good. Robert Altman would approve.

Sure, why not? A little variety is always nice.

For some reason the first thing that comes to mind is Robin Hood, I have no idea why. But that stealing from the rich shtick well land you in hot water.

Scrap the "Altman" plans. I think you should go with a Ming the Merciless look.

I can totally go for that too.

Yes, you should go for it. It will make you look slightly sinister which chicks really dig.

I'm not convinced you can pull it off (so to speak). The crunch for a Royale beard is the hair just below the lip. If you're weak there then it's an uphill struggle.

I say just go with the chin beard. Yay for tufts!

I don't think you have the nuts to do it. In fact, I triple dog dare ya!

Love it! Give it a go. You can always grow it all back if you don't like it...

Go for it!

See, I'm so not sure!

I have a "soul patch" growing out of my bottom lip line (which you really can't see because it's mostly white), then a bare patch of skin, then my chinny chin-chin whiskers.

But if you look at the Altman pic, I think that's what he has too. I don't think there is any hirsute continuity between Altman's upper and lower regions.

The only reason I'm so hesitant and insecure is because I have only been clean shaven once in the last, um, two decades?

My first wife, after appraising my hairless visage said "You have prissy lips. Grow it back and don't ever shave again."

She never was one to pull her punches.

So, yeah. The more face I expose, the more insecure I become. Especially now that I am older and more jowley.

But what better time to make a change than the new year, right?

All the women seem to think it will be hot, Faith correctly points out that I can always grow it back.

If I do it, it will between now (7:45 pm) and noonish tomorrow.

I'll let you know.

Well, I did it.

The girlfriend and I are going to see "There Will Be Blood" on New Years Day.

She doesn't even know I've been contemplating this.

Her reaction will trump everything else.

I think she'll like it.

Happy New Year!

Just as long as you never make a movie like "Dr. T and the Women."
