The Fallacy of Borders

Look carefully at this picture...

Do you see any "borders"?

Of course not. Because they don't exist. They aren't real. We just make this shit up as we go along. This is one big planet and we all live here together.

When I was born there were only 48 states.

Alaska and Hawaii aren't a natural part of The United States. Neither are Arizona and New Mexico. Or Texas. Or the Louisiana Purchase. Or even the original 13 colonies. This is all land that we bought or took by force from someone else. We don't have any divine right to this land anymore than Isreal has to the land that it claims for its own.

Virtually all of the problems we face in the Middle East today are due to arbitrary countries created out of thin air by the British after WWI or by the Jews after WWII, or by our greed for oil and policy of pitting one against the other for our benefit.

Borders are made up things by politicians and lawyers. They don't actually exist as real things.

So the whole idea of "securing our borders" as a righteous obligation is bullshit.

The whole concept of The United States of America as being some sort of land grant by God Almighty to Christian, English speaking, Northern Europeans is a bunch of crap! It is a fiction that we made up to justify our criminal presence here.

If we abritrarily, or militarily extend our borders into an area that contains people from another country (as we most recently did in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Indian Territory [now known as western Oklahoma], Alaska and Hawaii) we should not pretend to be shocked that our "new land" contains people from other countries that might not want to be assimilated as quickly as we would like.

The NCLR is full of shit.

The Minutemen are full of shit.

I favor the gradual but inevitable elimination of all national boundries and the creation of One Secular World Government. One Secular Terra. One Secular Constitution. One Secular Rule of Law. One Secular International Bill Of Rights. One Citizenship. One economy. One currency. One Vote.

Regional religions are subserviant to local secular laws. No exceptions.

Jerusalem and a surrounding 100 mile perimeter are declared a "United Nations Abrahamic Cultural Protectorate" administered and defended by UN Blue Helmets. Violence-free access to all is guaranteed at all times.

The parts of Iraq that are working today, are working because we are talking and paying instead of fighting and killing.

We can do this. Seriously.

But it requires people of all faiths to put their supersticious BS on the back burner and concentrate on social justice for everyone.

Believe whatever you want! Just keep that shit to yourself and focus on what's good for evereyone.

Good luck with that one, dude. I hope you're kidding because your theory isn't in the least bit realistic.

Xavier Onassis said...

It's not just realistic. It's inevitable.

Look at NAFTA. Look at the European Union. The Euro.

China and India will be dictating economic, political and social terms to us in the next 10 years.

You can hate it all you want. But it's gonna happen and there isn't a goddamned thing that you, me or anyone else can do about it.

Our power on the world stage is diminishing.

Get used to it.

We can either fight it and lose, or play it to our advantage by accepting it and working with it the best we can.

We are barely clinging to our status as the Last Remaining Superpower.

We will soon be the lap dogs of India and China. We will do whatever they want, whenever they want.

Sucks, doesn't it?

You omitted LaRaza as full O shit....Oh yeah, NAACP....

Xavier Onassis said...

anon 6:51 - NCLR is La Raza and I don't recall the NAACP having any immigration/border issues.

Try to keep up.

You're probably right about government's getting bigger and bigger, XO, but your dead wrong about it being a good thing.

Did you srsly use the UN as a positive example? This is arguably one of the most dysfunctional bureaucracies in the world.

If we've learned anything from the last 20 years or so, it's that more centralized governments come with fewer individual rights.

In fact, I think George Orwell already addressed this eventuality (of course in his version there were three world governments).

AAaaaahh! It feels so good to hear other people point out our society's ridiculous patriotism bullshit. Nice post!

Yeah. Patriotism is for suckas!

emaw - "Did you srsly use the UN as a positive example? This is arguably one of the most dysfunctional bureaucracies in the world."

I'm not suggesting that the U.N. should run the world. I'm just suggesting that we put them in charge of Jerusalem to keep the peace and ensure free access to all. The U.N. does a very good job of peace keeping. Mostly because the Blue Helmets come from so many different countries and the rotate in and out. MUCH different dynamic than if the U.S. had a battalion of soldiers based there.

Ultimately, we will need some form of planetary government if we are going to level the playing field between the Haves and the Have Nots. It is exactly that imbalance that has caused every single war in human history.

We have the resources, both physical and intellectual, to ensure that every human being on this planet has an equal opportunity to live, learn, thrive and succeed.

If we did that, why would anyone ever feel the need to rob or steal or go to war (triple redundancy...all the same thing)?

I know you think this is all a bunch of liberal, utopian bullshit. Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm giving people too much credit.

But I think that the overwhelming feeling of hopelessness among the Have Nots is the greatest threat to them and to us.

If you have no hope for a better life for you and your children, it doesn't take that much to convince you to become a terrorist and strike a blow against those that you percieve to be your oppressors.

We need to step up and take responsibility for our own contribution to the problem and work to fix it.

We don't do ourselves any favors by sending armed troops around the world to kill people.

Ok I actually read the whole post and borders reminds me of property lines.
Without property lines, then anyone can build, trespass on your property, even considering your house or apartment is in the property line.

At one time hawaii was apart of North America and Alaska too. Back that was way back then.

True. But as I said, property lines and borders are just shit we make up. It's not like they are handed down by God, or anything (sorry Isreal!!).

Think about a condo. What exactly is it that you actually "own"? Can you add another room? A garage? Can you paint the outside of your condo whatever color you want?

All you really own is the legal right to ownership. It's a sham. You don't really own anything.

Paintman, Alaska still is part of North America, it's just not part of the contiguous 48 states. And if you do go way back when then you end up with Pangaea - which puts everything nice and handy for XO's point. The only border you can see between North and South America is the man-made Panama canal.

emaw, the end of the nation-state does not necessarily mean the end of decentralised government or of local government.

Single planet government will make things much easier for sci-fi works of an interplanetary nature (and I hope I don't sound like the Carpenters when I say that)

Now that I think about it, your reference to the Middle East is the best argument AGAINST a One World Government.

As you say, the problems started with the post-WWI Brits drawing "artificial" borders in the region. This government was setting policy for a region essentially without the consent of the indigenous people.

So the Brits were trying to solve regional problems from an island thousands of miles away. The government was too far away from the governed. Throw in a little massive exploitation of natural resources and you get what we have today.

So in addition to blatantly ignoring human nature (well, nature in general), you're ignoring that the best government is one that governs locally (with the exception of the Kansas City School Board).

So once again, I rule and you drool.
