Gay Marriage Finally A Reality

I have no problem whatsoever with gay marriage.

As I discussed here and here.

Although I admit that when I think of gay marriage, I'm envisioning somthing like this...

and not so much of this...

or this...

...or this...

Together 50+ years, couple finally allowed to marry today

But that's just me.

If two people want to declare their undying love for one another, spend the rest of their lives together, and make provisions for the care of their loved one after their death, how the fuck can there be anything wrong with that?

Being an athiest, I prefer civil unions over religious ceremonies for everyone, but again, that's just me.

If a gay couple wants to be married in a religious ceremony, I paraphrase Thomas Jeffereson..."It neither picks my pockets or breaks my bones what another man chooses to believe."

Gay marriage is not an "attack on traditional marriage".

It is a reaffirmation of the values of traditional marriage by a group of people who have historically been unfairly excluded from embracing those values because of bigotry and predjudice.

That being said...

...this is just wrong.

Thinking about those two ladies that have been together 50+ years, I think that people who think it's an attack on traditional marriage ought to stop and think about how many of their straight friends have managed to hang on to a relationship for half a century and still be so in love they want to get married.

In today's society, there are plenty of attacks on traditional marriage. I don't think any of them come from the gay community.
