Judge declares Independence winner in school battle

Those embattled schools in west Independence belong to the Independence School District now.

An independent building corporation that was standing between the transfer of schools between Kansas City and Independence was only a “placeholder” and must stand aside, a Jackson County Circuit Court judge ruled today.

The School District of Kansas City Building Corp., which had claimed that only it could approve the sale or transfer of the schools caught up in a boundary dispute, must allow title to all of the buildings to be passed on to Independence.
