Gandhi

No, this is not a deep, philosophical and political dive into the subjects of Empire, passive resistance and rebellion.

It is SO much shallower than that.

I was sitting on my fat ass eating tacos on my leather sofa, flipping around the cable channels with my universal remote when I just happened to stop on "Gandhi" with Ben Kingsley.

I've seen it before, so I didn't need to watch the whole thing (72 hours? Is that right?). But DAMN! What a great movie! Ben Kingsley IS Gandhi.

like Forest Whitaker channeled Idi Amin

and Helen Mirren inhabited The Queen.

Sometimes, an actor, a script and a role just mesh like it was destiny and it becomes impossible to unentangle them.

I'm still waiting for my shot at Lex Luthor.

It really blows my mind how some actors can just embody the roll. I agree with your picks. Especially got into Helen Mirren as the Queen.

By the way, if you've never seen Charlize Theron in "Monster", put it on your list. An amazing transformation and an amazing acting job.

Don't sell yourself short, XO. You totally nailed the roll of Man Coming Back From Concession Stand in "Adam at Six A.M."

spyder - ummm, Friday? What on earth do you mean? LOL!

satyavati - there are pictures of me here without shades.

iwanski - I could see that. I mean that in a good way.

spyder - ummm, maybe. My GF thinks I should go for it. I'm not so sure. Twelve hours is a huge committment. I'm starting to chicken out. Not sure I can even stand my own company for that long. LOL!

I cannot look at that picture of gandhi without imagining him saying in that little indian accent, "like my glasses?" You know xo, if you dont set goals in life, you will find it passing you by so quickly you wont know what hit you. Didnt gandhi teach you anything? (besides how to pick nice glasses) I think you owe it to yourself both to your current self and the self you will grow into after completing this feat. Dream big XO. Friday is your day. I feel it.

About Friday:

why not get people to sponsor you for charity, you know, like when they do walk a thons or sitting on top of a pole in the middle of a parking lot for a month.

And where are these sans-shades pictures?

How about just Friday evening? Pot luck supper. We could watch the one you liked the best...

spyder - Actually, you had me talked into it. I was going to get on here tonight and go for the "One Movie Friday Night Deal" (it was going to be 'Return Of The King', btw. I always tear up when Aragorn says "NO my friends. You bow to no one!")

It may still happen. But my daughter, young Galadriel Tanqueray Onassis, text messaged me tonight. Yesterday was her last day of school and she wanted to know if she could come over early...like Thursday instead of Saturday.

I am currently in text-negotiations with my 13 year old. If she really wants to come over early, that trumps everything (she lives with her mother in Richmond and we are on a 2 week rotation).

If her plans (having her niece come with her, having her mom bring her, etc.) don't pan out, then I may go ahead and do the Friday night thing.

So. That's where things stand right now.

Not a particularly Lex Luthorish pic, but no shades.
